With SPOTonFolk ROSAfolk presents five Danish artists and bands on SPOT Festival, who each in their own way are inspired by Danish and Nordic folk traditions.
Despite the name there is not much sand on the floor when Spillemændene (the fiddlers, red.) enters the stage. With an intense vocal and dark irony they deal with Danish national symbols.
On the other hand the members of Habadekuk live up to the fiddler-designation in full. With wind and waves Habadekuk gives new life to traditional polkas and waltzes.
In Euzen pianist and electronic sound architect Christopher Juul and singer Maria Franz has managed to combine strong beats with the organic Nordic folk tune.
A different suggestion on a Nordic folk sound is given by Nordens Tone. The quartet seeks the musical universe that lies between Jan Johansson’s jazzy melancholia and the Nordic folk music and song traditions.
It is the deep American roots which have inspired M.C. Hansen. With a guitar on his back he has traveled Canada and USA and other places to collect inspiration for what he calls ‘scandicana’ – Scandinavian music in an American disguise.
SPOTonFOLK is arranged by ROSA’s secretariat for Folk music (ROSAfolk) and SPOT Festival.
