Hot Nordic acts such as Choir of Young Believers, Bon Homme (WhomadeWho) and Lydmor, Stine Bramsen (Alphabeat), Lucy Love, Kellermensch, Iceage, The Eclectic Moniker, Farao, Jaakko Eino Kalevi and many more fresh new Nordic artists to visit SPOT Festival in May. Plus a reformed Psyched Up Janis.
It seems like a lot of well-known Danish acts are working on something new right now and SPOT Festival will be the place of revelation: Choir Of Young Believers are currently perfecting their live show across Europe, supporting Depeche Mode. The concert at SPOT will be the very first actual gig with new material and an updated line-up.
Bon Homme (WhoMadeWho) is cooperating with the electronic upcoming musician Lydmor. What the two of them are working on stays a secret for now, but at SPOT they will step on that stage together for what can only be a magical performance.
In the department of pure pop, Stine Bramsen has taken a leave of absence from Alphabeat to test herself as a solo artist. Lucy Love, the Danish queen of grime, plays gigs all over the world. In between she still found the time to make a new album. While the party is still omnipresent in her music, the lyrics turned out to be more personal this time.
Kellermensch have reported for duty after a rather long writing break. The band’s distinct version of metal has long since gone from strength to strength in particular in Germany and the UK, and after a good six months in the studio it is time to test the new material.
Another hard-hitting act that has announced its arrival at SPOT is the Danish kings of punk rock Iceage, who boast countless fans worldwide – including Iggy Pop and Pitchfork. In addition to their own gig they will bring along some friends from the Copenhagen scene – namely Lower, Communions and Hand of Dust.
Another sparkling band from the Copenhagen scene will also join the line-up: The musical collective The Eclectic Moniker mixes different genres like Afro-beat, Calypso as well as Indie Rock and Alternative Pop. The results are catchy yet dreamy and melancholic pop-songs.
And then of course there’s the come back of Psyched Up Janis. At the 20th anniversary of their debut album ”Swell” the band has reformed for the occasion with Sune Rose Wagner (The Raveonettes) in front.
As usual, SPOT Festival also presents some aces from other Nordic countries:
Finnish Jaakko Eino Kalevi, whose psychedelic pop leaves a sweet taste of jazz, disco and lots of other things, currently signed at Domino Records, making him their first Nordic artist. Jaakko also received plenty of praise at the latest Eurosonic Festival.
Add to that Norwegian, London-based Farao, who brings folk into her electronic dream world and first attracted attention with her cover of Queen Of The Stone Age’s ”Go With The Flow” – accompanied only by a guitar.
More promising Nordic acts will perform at SPOT Festival – a total of 37 acts have been announced so far: Zhala (SE), Emilie Nicolas (NO), Sumie (SE), BYRTA (FO), Truls (NO), Sea Change (NO), Naomi Pilgrim (SE), Electric Eye (NO), Beglomeg (NO), as well as Danish Alcoholic Faith Mission, Panamah, Chorus Grant, Iberia, Karl William, GLASS, Sekuoia, Kill J, Copia Doble Systema, My Heart the Brave, Mont Oliver, Quick Quick Obey, The Awesome Welles, Ring Them Bells and then Kraftwerk will be interpreted by Aarhus Jazzorchestra joined by drummer Emil de Waal and electronic musician Spejderrobot.
