Staying largely true to their frank namesake, last night in the Musikhuset foyer, Hamburg based “FUCK ART, LET’S DANCE!” incited a legion of young fans to unhinge their hips and lose their physical inhibitions. Whilst the idea of rubbishing art is not wholly true, the sentiment is heard loud and clear; do not worry about things, just dance would you.

The tendency to create a ‘dance party’ wherever they may play has led to the increasing interest of the music media. British music magazine ‘NME’ branded new album “Atlas” as a toe tapping, yet nuanced affair from excitable German talents.

Live, they are a definite force.”FALD!’s” sonic signature falls to the relentless four to the floor kick drum, propelling their tracks along familiar ‘danceable’ trajectory. Drums are accompanied by gain free, jangly toned electrics, listeners of ‘indie dance’ will recognise all too well.

Though, like a bag of sweets that gets a little less delicious as you reach the bottom of the pack, the blinding intensity of FALD!’s ‘balls to the wall’ style can leave listeners with a sugar hangover. The set ran for 35 minutes, proving to be the perfect amount of time to experience such a blast of pocket rocket energy. Any longer, and even diehard fan’s enthusiasm would have begun to wane.

However, this is not to say FALD! are a one trick ‘party band’ pony. Late into the set, the group dove into track “Fake Love”, a number from their new album “Atlas”. Here, deeper emotional depth was unearthed. Moody pre-chorus build ups and minor chord jangles provided a kind of melancholic dance, a fresh change from the incessant positivity.

All up, FALD! were raucous fun.

Nearing the end of the set, lead singer Nico Cham declared that he had a bottle of Jaeger, inviting fans to drink it with him during the rest of the festival. Judging by the screaming fan response, FALD! should have no problems finding Danish participants.
