Playing a Saturday afternoon slot in SPOT festival are young newcomers Quick Quick Obey. Although native to Jutland, the band have steadily increased their fanbase throughout the rest of Denmark. Music blogs Soundvenue, Good Because Danish and Sound of Aarhus have all praised the band enthusiastically, branding them as a must see act.

The set will have fans of chilled-out grooving wholly catered for. Expect to hear a dreamy haze of sun drenched vocal harmonies and hypnotising rhythms. The band pulses in an organic fashion. Deep bass guitar locks in with the drums, providing a steady platform for lead guitarist Nikolaj Poulsen to slice through, inputting some genuinely inventive tones, rhythms and melodies. Nikolaj’s guitar helps create the rich atmosphere which immerses the audience in Quick Quick Obey’s other-world vibe.

Lead vocalist/keyboardist Ebsen Halkier’s voice floats reverberated over the band’s wall of fuzz. With clean, acrobatic melodies, the two elements contrast for a rich aural soundscape. Intermeshed in the mix is Halkier’s keyboard sounds: 80′s synths and marimbas. This throws the band in unusual sonic directions, where pop elements combine with the jagged indie backdrop to create truly exotic summer moments.
Typifying the band’s sound is lead single “Hold Your Breath” . Marimba led, the song showcases the players considerable musicianship, chorus-ey lead guitar glides over distorted, syncopated bass. Gang vocals during the chorus incites crowd participation; Halkier preaches “all you know, all you know is today, we fly from the moon”, bolstering Quick Quick Obey’s mystical enthusiasm.
