What kind of businesses will survive in the future? And what will it take? The moderator, Paul Tyler, invites Scott Cohen, Victor Pineiro and David Mattin on stage for a talk about the storytellers of today and how they cope with their extended remit – having a broader sphere of influence, now that they have to think beyond being simply artists and think more like designers.

Scott Cohen is the Co-Founder and VP International of The Orchard. The Orchard is a pioneering music, video and film distribution company and top-ranked Multi Channel Network operating in more than 25 global markets. In addition to building The Orchard’s distribution business, Scott oversees Orchard Management, which manages the careers of The Raveonettes, Dum Dum Girls, Deer Tracks, Queen Kwong, and Fallulah, and advises a host of other established and emerging artists. Scott began his music career in the late 1980s in independent and major label artist management. Over the years, Scott has earned a reputation as a well-recognized public speaker and lecturer, travelling the world sharing his experience and insight into the digital age and its new business models. Scott is also a visiting professor at London Metropolitan University, and sits on the BPI Council.

As Strategy Director at Big Spaceship, Victor Pineiro helps shape engagements for a number of clients including YouTube and Skittles, whose Facebook audience he helped grow from three million to 20 million with one of the highest engagement rates on the social network. Victor continues growing out Big Spaceship’s content and social media practice. Recent clients include YouTube/Google, Crayola, Chobani and Wrigley.
He is also the writer and producer of Second Skin, a documentary on virtual worlds which premiered on opening night of SXSW to rave reviews, broke audience records at a number of film festivals, was named number 4 Documentary of 2008 by Ain’t It Cool News, a Best Movie of the Decade by Film School Rejects, won Best Documentary at ACE Fest in NYC, and was distributed internationally by Liberation Entertainment in Summer 2009. It had a theatrical run in multiple cities throughout the summer, and was the most watched movie on Hulu for the month of August 2009.

David Mattin is head of Trends & Insights at trendwatching.com and has over 12 years experience in writing and speaking about technological, social and cultural change. After graduating with a first class degree in History from the University of Cambridge, David’s career began at the features desk of The Times, where he wrote on lifestyle, culture and business. Since then, his business, innovation and trends journalism has appeared everywhere from Fast Company to the Guardian to Google Think Quarterly. An experienced broadcaster, David also has written and presented current affairs documentaries for BBC Radio 4. Paul Tyler is English, his work is international and he lives in Copenhagen. Paul founded Handling Ideas – a creative consultancy developed from a twenty-year career spanning television and cross-media production at the BBC, theatre management, format development and undergraduate teaching. He makes companies more effective at responding to the ever-growing need for deeper user engagement and consistent user experience across multiple devices. Working within content and story, service & campaign development, his remit is broad, from mapping character journeys against audience behaviours to revealing dependencies for triggering user-generated content. Paul is moderator of the SPOT Interactive conference held on Thursday May 1st where he will guide us through the day. On Friday May 2nd Paul will also be doing a workshop on “How to create a meaningful user journey”.
